Mary Beth Cysewski is a talented singer-songwriter known for her captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Her passion for music began at a young age while living in Arlington Heights, Illinois, with her parents and nine siblings. She started taking singing and songwriting more seriously as a teen when her family moved to Sacramento, California. Mary Beth sang in choirs throughout high school as well as in garage bands and local talent venues. When she moved to Nashville, TN, in 1986, she dedicated herself to crafting songs in earnest. As she began to resonate with her audience, Mary Beth's unique blend of genres and ethereal voice earned her a loyal following. Mary Beth worked as a waitress at Rafferty's and Maude's Courtyard then as a receptionist at the music publishing company of David Briggs and Will Jennings suitably called Willin' David Music and the adjoining recording studio House of David on Music Row. Here she met then married Lynn Peterzell in 1990 (who passed away in 1994), and together they co-wrote her first album, "Letting Go." She graduated from Belmont University in 1996 with a degree in English Literature while continuing to perform and pursue her music career. Mary Beth remarried, and in 1998, she and her husband, James Weinberg, had a child together. Being a parent took center stage for Mary Beth, although she never stopped writing. During that time, she took up guitar and wrote and recorded her next album, "Eclipse." In 2011, Mary Beth earned a master's degree in social work (MSSW) and worked as a school social worker for three years in Nashville. She delved into her passion for photography and worked on a street photography project with her mentor, Peter Nash. She had a black-and-white photo exhibit of their work in town, which led to the purchase of several prints and a commission from Mayor Megan Barry for seven large color photographs of local iconic neon signs, which the Mayor hung in the State Capitol conference room. Mary Beth continued to study photography at Nashville State Community College and worked as a freelance photographer for a local real estate development company as well as for personal clients. Songwriting, singing, and performing—Mary Beth's deepest passion and form of creative expression—led her toward Bhakti yoga (the devotion to and practice of divine love), chanting devotional mantra, and participating in kirtans along with her husband and local kirtan artists such as Amy Barnes, Gayatri Dasa, Kenneth Robinson, and Michelle Hall. In 2020, Mary Beth and her husband gathered their kirtan friends together and recorded a collaborative album of kirtan music called "Bodhi Svaha." That record was produced by Will Kimbrough of Nashville, TN, and was blessed with the soulful guitar playing of the late Tom Mason. While continuing to sing and write devotional mantras, Mary Beth was inspired to write and record "Love Will Steer The Stars" comprised of personal songs dedicated to her mother (who passed away during that process) and to her family, especially the cover of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," which she sang as a young girl with her three sisters. Will Kimbrough produced and played on that record as well and offered his soulful voice to their version of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In." You can follow Mary Beth and her musical adventures here and at nashkirtan.com. Mary Beth's commitment to authenticity shines through in every record, live performance, and kirtan, making her an inspiration in the industry and the world.
